Quote of November

Well, November has certainly flown by fast here in Brookline at Evan Webster Ink. Evidence of this is forgetting to write about the Quote of November. This quote comes from a book written a long time ago. It was undoubtedly the most influential book of November and is quite quotable. It’s called “Meditations” and was written by emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius. It is essentially a collection of messages that Marcus wrote to himself. And while sometimes over-run with pessimism there are many amazing and helpful passages, here are three I especially liked:

7.7 Don’t be ashamed to need help. Like a soldier storming a wall, you have a mission to accomplish. And if you’ve been wounded and you need a comrade to pull you up? So what?

10.37 Learn to ask of all actions, “Why are they doing that?”
Starting with your own.

12.6 Practice even when it seems impossible.
The left hand is useless at almost everything, for lack of practice. But it guides the reins better than the right.                    From practice.
